Top Ten Tuesday – Top Five Characters I Liked That Were In Books I Didn’t Like

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, featuring a different top 10 theme each week. This week’s topic is Top Ten Five Characters I Liked That Were In Books I Didn’t Like.

I struggled with this topic and I only found five books that I didn’t like, which had characters that I did like. When I hate books, I normally hate everything about them, mostly the characters.

Cruel & Unusual (Kay Scarpetta #4) – I didn’t like the novel at all, but I enjoyed the main character, Virginia Chief Medical Examiner Kay Scarpetta.

12th of Never (Women’s Murder Club #12) – I really enjoyed the first 6 novels in the series. I hated the 12th novel, but my favourite character is Claire Washburn, the medical examiner.

Going, Going, Ganache (Cupcake Bakery Mystery #5) – sadly another series that I had previously enjoyed that has gone downhill. I love all 3 main characters in the series – Melanie, Angie and Tate.

The One & Only – oh how I hate this book. I enjoyed the best friend, Lucy, because she was the only one in the book that had any common sense.

A Game of Thrones – I feel like I’m the only one that didn’t like this series, but I liked Jon Snow.

Are there any characters that you liked even though you didn’t like the book? Did you like any of my disliked books?

      1. I literally don’t think I would have been able to keep up with the characters if I had not watched the show first and given me faces to put to the names. Some of them are so similar in if not having the same name!

      2. That’s a good idea! I realized at the very end of the book that there was a breakdown of the characters and what house they belonged to! That would of been helpful 1000 pages ago…

      3. Thats what I thought to! When I got to the end of the book and saw that I was so mad. Like gee thanks Martin, I totally didn’t need that list of people and houses by chapter two or anything.

      1. Yes, so true. I ended up just going to my goodreads and sorting through my worst rated books. It’s hard because I tend to put books I don’t like out of my mind. Why do I need to remember that?! haha

      2. So funny! I saw that I had some rated some books 1 star and I thought to myself, oh I don’t think the main character was that bad. The start of my review was “I hated all characters, especially the main one”!

  1. omg a cupcake bakery mystery, haha. I love those cheesy themed mystery novels. I’ve got a few of them that are coffee shop themed, but I haven’t read them yet. I’m sure they’re terrible, but I couldn’t resist. And I’m so surprised to hear of someone who doesn’t like GoT! I’ve never read the books or seen the show.
