Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, featuring a different top 10 theme each week. This week’s topic is Books I Decided to DNF (did not finish).
I normally finish a book even though I tend not to enjoy it. These are the rare books that I didn’t finish:
- Sunshine Sketches of a Little Town by Stephen Leacock – this was recommended by a co-worker. I did not enjoy it.
- The Wolf of Wall Street by Jordan Belfort – this is a world that I have no desire being a part of. This is one of the rare cases where I liked the movie better than the book.
- Atonement by Ian McEwan – people love it, I couldn’t get into it.
- A Burnable Book by Bruce Holsinger – too many characters and not enough happening.
- Life After Life by Kate Atkinson – I didn’t get it. Lots of repeating, which made it really confusing.
- The Neon Rain by James Lee Burke – I love Alafair Burke’s novels, but her father’s novels just felt too old man for me.
- Private India by James Patterson – this was around the book that I stopped reading Patterson’s series.
- The Arsonist by Stephanie Oakes – didn’t hook me at all. After 100 pages of not caring I threw in the towel and read the ending.
- Cruel & Unusual by Patricia Cornwell – wasn’t a fan of the series up to this book. I think I also had a bad ebook version that didn’t have any chapter breaks.
- Six Women of Salem: The Untold Story of the Accused and Their Accusers in the Salem Witch Trials by Marilynne K. Roach – felt like a textbook, way too much information that I couldn’t absorb.
What are some books that you didn’t finish reading? Have you finished any of my DNFs?
I haven’t read any of these books 😀

Yay, glad I’m not the only one! I have no desire to see the movie

I have Life after Life on my TBR. I usually trudge my way through a book even if I hate it, always hoping it may improve.

That’s what I do as well! These books were the exception

I think a lot of people feel that way about Atonement – I liked the movie but don’t really want to read the book because it seems like it’s a bit hit or miss! Great list 😊

I read a lot of nonfiction, and one of my number one peeves is when the writing is too dry and textbook-like! Snoooooze!

Totally agree! I’m not in school, so I don’t want to read any textbook like books!

I enjoyed the Wolf of Wall Street movie, but I’m thinking I probably won’t read the book. Great list!

I found the author to be very arrogant in the novel. Did not enjoy it.

Thanks! A lot of lists I have seen today are of books that I’ve never heard of! Good thing I won’t be reading them!

It’s quite useful, right? ^.^ Although…they can be a double-edged sword sometimes. Especially with in the case of goodreads reviews.

Glad to say I haven’t read any of these.

I am a fan of Patricia Cornwell and enjoyed that book, I haven’t read the others.

I think for that one it was because my copy was so bad. Out of all my DNFs, I would only try again with this one, but with a better copy.

I haven’t heard of any of these. I try not to DNF a book, and so far have been very lucky.

I try not DNF but I wasn’t feeling these books!

I’ve not read any of them. I did endure sitting though The Wolf of Wall Street with the hubby. Not something I would choose to watch again.

I haven’t read any of these but I definitely can see why they are on your DNF list based on descriptions alone. Somethings, alas, are just not meant to be.

I just didn’t get it. It was very confusing with her dying over and over again.

I felt the same way. I thought there were too many books I wanted to read to spend time muddling through this one.
