When Caroline Sears receives the news that her unborn baby girl has a heart defect, she is devastated. It is 1970 and there seems to be little that can be done. But her brother-in-law, a physicist, tells her that perhaps there is. Hunter appeared in their lives just a few years before—and his appearance was as mysterious as his past. With no family, no friends, and a background shrouded in secrets, Hunter embraced the Sears family and never looked back.
Now, Hunter is telling her that something can be done about her baby’s heart. Something that will shatter every preconceived notion that Caroline has. Something that will require a kind of strength and courage that Caroline never knew existed. Something that will mean a mind-bending leap of faith on Caroline’s part. And all for the love of her unborn child.

To keep this short and sweet – read this novel and go in blind! The less you know about the plot of the novel, the better experience you will have.
Chamberlain was able to fit so much into the novel and not lose any of the connections that you feel with the characters and the story line. I felt that I went on a ride that was so beautiful and emotional.
I’m struggling to find words to write to describe this novel, but not share too much. Anyone who has read the novel and wants to discuss is more than welcome to message me!
4 calculators out of a potential 5. Read it, read it, read it! I’m taking off one calculator because this wasn’t an all time favourite of mine and it may not be a novel that I re-read in the future. I’m also very picky when it comes to 5 calculators!
I’ve heard great things about this book and knowing how well Diane Chamberlain writes and how much you enjoyed it, I may soon pick it up!

I did like the book, but I am too much of a science nerd for it.

I can see that. I did a bit of eye rolling when I realized what she was going to be doing and how they executed it.

Absolutely loved this read, and it was my first from Diane. Admittedly when I got to the first major plot twist I almost gave it up because I’m not usually into a sci-fi/fantasty read, but i plodded on and it was fantastic! Ugly cried in a number of places.

I was so glad that I wasn’t told about the sci-fi piece or else I wouldn’t of read it. Such a wonderful read!
