Dead Souls (D.I. Kim Stone #6) by Angela Marsons

Deal Souls

The truth was dead and buried…until now.
When a collection of human bones is unearthed during a routine archaeological dig, a Black Country field suddenly becomes a complex crime scene for Detective Kim Stone

As the bones are sorted, it becomes clear that the grave contains more than one victim. The bodies hint at unimaginable horror, bearing the markings of bullet holes and animal traps.

Forced to work alongside Detective Travis, with whom she shares a troubled past, Kim begins to uncover a dark secretive relationship between the families who own the land in which the bodies were found.

But while Kim is immersed in one of the most complicated investigations she’s ever led, her team are caught up in a spate of sickening hate crimes. Kim is close to revealing the truth behind the murders, yet soon finds one of her own is in jeopardy – and the clock is ticking. Can she solve the case and save them from grave danger – before it’s too late?

The Kim Stone series just gets better and better! I love how each novel follows the same characters, but doesn’t rely on a formulaic plot. Each novel has an unique deadly plot that ends up blowing my mind each time!

In the 6th novel in the series, Kim and her team end up working on different cases and it’s a struggle for everyone. Kim’s team (Bryant, Dawson and Stacey) has a power struggle between the 2 males and it’s clear that they each believe their method works. Meanwhile, Kim has to work with an ex-partner and his team and it’s clear that they have some unresolved history between them.

I don’t want to share too much of the plot, but I loved it. I flew through the novel so quickly since I had to know what was going to happen which each of the cases and the characters.

This novel is not going to be for everyone. There are some disturbing scenes as well as a lot of hate crimes and racism.

Sadie by Courtney Summers

sadie

A missing girl on a journey of revenge. A Serial―like podcast following the clues she’s left behind. And an ending you won’t be able to stop talking about.

Sadie hasn’t had an easy life. Growing up on her own, she’s been raising her sister Mattie in an isolated small town, trying her best to provide a normal life and keep their heads above water.

But when Mattie is found dead, Sadie’s entire world crumbles. After a somewhat botched police investigation, Sadie is determined to bring her sister’s killer to justice and hits the road following a few meager clues to find him.

When West McCray―a radio personality working on a segment about small, forgotten towns in America―overhears Sadie’s story at a local gas station, he becomes obsessed with finding the missing girl. He starts his own podcast as he tracks Sadie’s journey, trying to figure out what happened, hoping to find her before it’s too late.

I wish I had listened to Sadie as an audiobook as opposed to reading the physical copy. The format is unique – half of the novel is a podcast and the other half is Sadie’s narrative. Other reviewers rave about the audiobook and I think it would of added an extra element.

Sadie isn’t for those who are looking for happy endings. Courtney Summers is not that type of author. I would even argue that Sadie is even more deep, sad, emotional than her other novels.

The characters, especially Sadie, are deeply broken and trying to move on past an event that killed Sadie’s sister, Mattie. Sadie and Mattie are more than just sisters, they have more of a mother/daughter bond. Which is why Sadie is devastated when she no longer has Mattie.

4 calculators out of a potential 5. This is so much more than a Young Adult novel. If you like mysteries that pull at your heartstrings, then check Sadie out!

The Rumor

Madeline King and Grace Pancik are best friends and the envy of Nantucket for their perfect marriages, their beautiful kids, their Sunday night double dates with their devoted husbands. But this summer, something’s changed, and if there’s anything Nantucket likes better than cocktails on the beach at sunset, it’s a good rumor.

And rumor has it…

…that Madeline, a novelist, is battling writer’s block, with a deadline looming, bills piling up, and blank pages driving her to desperation–and a desperately bad decision;

…that Grace, hard at work to transform her backyard into a garden paradise, has been collaborating a bit more closely than necessary with her ruggedly handsome landscape architect;

…that Grace’s husband, successful island real estate developer “Fast Eddie” Pancik, has embarked on quite an unusual side project;

…that the storybook romance between Madeline’s son, Brick, and Grace’s daughter Allegra is on the rocks, heading for disaster.

As the gossip escalates, and they face the possible loss of the happy lives they’ve worked so hard to create, Grace and Madeline try mightily to set the record straight–but the truth might be even worse than rumor has it.

Little Monsters

Kacey is the new girl in Broken Falls. When she moved in with her father, she stepped into a brand-new life. A life with a stepbrother, a stepmother, and strangest of all, an adoring younger half sister.

Kacey’s new life is eerily charming compared with the wild highs and lows of the old one she lived with her volatile mother. And everyone is so nice in Broken Falls—she’s even been welcomed into a tight new circle of friends. Bailey and Jade invite her to do everything with them.

Which is why it’s so odd when they start acting distant. And when they don’t invite her to the biggest party of the year, it doesn’t exactly feel like an accident.

But Kacey will never be able to ask, because Bailey never makes it home from that party. Suddenly, Broken Falls doesn’t seem so welcoming after all—especially once everyone starts looking to the new girl for answers.

Kacey is about to learn some very important lessons: Sometimes appearances can be deceiving. Sometimes when you’re the new girl, you shouldn’t trust anyone.

The Perfect Girlfriend by Karen Hamilton

the perfect girlfriend

Juliette loves Nate. She will follow him anywhere. She’s even become a flight attendant for his airline, so she can keep a closer eye on him. They are meant to be. The fact that Nate broke up with her six months ago means nothing. Because Juliette has a plan to win him back. She is the perfect girlfriend. And she’ll make sure no one stops her from getting exactly what she wants. True love hurts, but Juliette knows it’s worth all the pain…

Juliette has everything going for her: she’s young, pretty, and driven, and she’s training for an exciting new career as a flight attendant.

The darkness in her past doesn’t matter, because she’s moved beyond all that, and she’s building a great new life for herself-one that will impress her ex-boyfriend, Nate, who left her in a foolish moment of commitment-phobia, one that he surely regrets now. But he’ll be so proud of her once he sees how much she’s grown. And he will see her. After all, he’s a pilot at the very same airline where Juliette is training.

What kind of man wouldn’t appreciate the effort Juliette has taken to win Nate back? She cleans his apartment when he’s not there, and makes sure to leave all his favorite foods in the fridge. It’s only a matter of time before he leaves his airheaded new girlfriend and realizes Juliette is the only one for him.

He will realize it. Juliette will make sure of it. After all, she is the perfect girlfriend.

Available tomorrow – March 26, 2019!

I am such a sucker for stalker novels. The Perfect Girlfriend is such a great stalker novel that you just get sucked in and don’t want it to end. It’s pretty similar to the novel You, it’s completely twisted and creepy, but isn’t as sexual or graphic.

Juliette is crazy and twisted, but has some admiring qualities. She knows what she wants and doesn’t give up. She is motivated and won’t let anything or anyone get in her way. Seriously, don’t get in her way. I was all in for Juliette.

I loved the twists in the novel and didn’t see a certain event happening at all. I couldn’t believe what I was reading and I loved the aftermath of the event. Seriously Nate, how could you not love Juliette?!

The only negative was the ending. It was incomplete. I wanted a conclusion, I wanted so much more. Maybe a sequel is in the future?

4 calculators out of a potential 5. If you are like me and enjoy stalker novels, pick this one up! You won’t be disappointed!

Thank you to Netgallery and Harlequin for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
