The Surrogate by Louise Jensen

The Surrogate

‘You know that feeling? When you want something so badly, you almost feel you’d kill for it?’

Be careful what you wish for…

Kat and her husband Nick have tried everything to become parents, and are on the point of giving up. Then a chance encounter with Kat’s childhood friend Lisa gives Kat and Nick one last chance to achieve their dream.

But Kat and Lisa’s history hides dark secrets.

And there is more to Lisa than meets the eye.

As dangerous cracks start to appear in Kat’s perfect picture of happily-ever-after, she realises that she must face her fear of the past to save her family…

Super disappointed in The Surrogate. I wish that the story was a bit more realistic as opposed to adding a ton of twists in order to shock the reader. I found myself doing a ton of eye rolls because this would never happen in real life.

Kat, her husband, Nick, and her childhood best friend, Lisa, have a ton of secrets. They have secrets going back to their childhood that they have never revealed to each other. Once Lisa entered the picture again, Kat is transported back to high school, a place she never wants to revisit.

I hated Kat, Nick and Lisa. They were all super annoying who were just too wrapped up with themselves. I especially didn’t like Kat and Nick, it was hard to picture them being a married couple since they never talked to one another. They just lived their separate lives, hiding secrets, and expecting everything to be ok when they become parents. Because everything always work out that way…

And then there was the twists. Ok, I admit, that I didn’t see a lot of the twists coming. I thought the novel was going to go one way and it went in a completely different direction. I liked that and then boom, another twist and then another and I struggled to put it altogether because it just didn’t make sense.

2 calculators out of a potential 5. I still highly recommend The Sister by Jensen (which I loved!) , but sadly I’m finding her other novels not nearly as great.

  1. Sorry to hear the book was a disappointment. Sounds like the author tried too hard and overcomplicated the plot.
