Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a meme hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings to spotlight and discuss the books we are excited about that we have yet to read. The book I can’t wait to read is this week is:

The Escape Roon

Vincent, Jules, Sylvie, and Sam are ruthlessly ambitious high-flyers working in the lucrative world of Wall Street finance where deception and intimidation thrive. Getting rich is all that matters, and they’ll do anything to reach the top.

When they are ordered to participate in a corporate team-building exercise that requires them to escape from a locked elevator, dark secrets of their team begin to be laid bare.

The biggest mystery to solve in this lethal game: What happened to Sara Hall? Once a young shining star—”now gone but not forgotten”.

This is no longer a game.
They’re fighting for their lives.

What novel are you excited to read? Let me know in the comments below!

Top 5 Tuesday – P – Q – R – S – T

T5T

Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly meme that Bionic Bookworm hosts. Today’s topic is P – Q – R – S – T.  You need to come up with a book title for each letter of the alphabet, which I think will be quite the challenge!

A Stranger on the Beach by Michele Campbell

A Stranger on the Beach

There is a stranger outside Caroline’s house.

Her spectacular new beach house, built for hosting expensive parties and vacationing with the family she thought she’d have. But her husband is lying to her and everything in her life is upside down, so when the stranger, Aiden, shows up as a bartender at the same party where Caroline and her husband have a very public fight, it doesn’t seem like anything out of the ordinary.

As her marriage collapses around her and the lavish lifestyle she’s built for herself starts to crumble, Caroline turns to Aiden for comfort…and revenge. After a brief and desperate fling that means nothing to Caroline and everything to him, Aiden’s obsession with Caroline, her family, and her house grows more and more disturbing. And when Caroline’s husband goes missing, her life descends into a nightmare that leaves her accused of her own husband’s murder.

Available Tomorrow – July 23, 2019!

The story starts off as one that everyone has heard before – wife and husband fight, husband seems to have an affair, so the wife goes out and has her own revenge affair. You may think you have read this story before, but A Stranger on the Beach is definitely not one you have read before!

The story is unique because you get the side of both Caroline (wife) and Aiden (young bartender) as they are going through their affair. Their stories don’t match up and it’s a bit confusing to understand what is really happening. I found myself flip flopping to decide who to believe.

The last 25% of the novel really picks up when Caroline’s husband goes missing. I sadly was able to see most of the twists coming, so nothing was too shocking to me by the end of the novel.

3 calculators out of a potential 5. A twisty novel that had me guessing who to believe, but sadly didn’t blow me away.

Thank you to Netgallery and St. Martin’s Press for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Dear Wife by Kimberly Belle

Dear Wife

Beth Murphy is on the run…

For nearly a year, Beth has been planning for this day. A day some people might call any other Wednesday, but Beth prefers to see it as her new beginning–one with a new look, new name and new city. Beth has given her plan significant thought, because one small slip and her violent husband will find her.

Sabine Hardison is missing…

A couple hundred miles away, Jeffrey returns home from a work trip to find his wife, Sabine, is missing. Wherever she is, she’s taken almost nothing with her. Her abandoned car is the only evidence the police have, and all signs point to foul play.

As the police search for leads, the case becomes more and more convoluted. Sabine’s carefully laid plans for her future indicate trouble at home, and a husband who would be better off with her gone. The detective on the case will stop at nothing to find out what happened and bring this missing woman home. Where is Sabine? And who is Beth? The only thing that’s certain is that someone is lying and the truth won’t stay buried for long.

This story isn’t new – wife goes missing and the blame goes right to the husband. Dear Wife, highlights two female and two male characters. Beth has run away from her home and her husband. She has to try to outsmart her husband, who she believe has one step on her. Sabine is missing and her husband, Jeffrey, is slowly finding out new things about his wife that marks him as the prime suspect. Marcus is the detective trying to figure out what happened to Sabine.

I enjoyed Dear Wife and I just wanted to keep reading. I did uncover the “twist” early on in the novel, but was curious to see how the novel would unfold. One negative I had was the lack of connection that I had with all of the characters. The male characters were just awful and Beth just rubbed me the wrong way. It was hard to feel for them when I just didn’t care about them.

3 calculators out of a potential 5. I think this was released at the perfect time as it would make a great summertime read!

Broken Bones (D.I. Kim Stone #7) by Angela Marsons

Broken Bones.jpg

They thought they were safe. They were wrong.

The murder of a young prostitute and a baby found abandoned on the same winter night signals the start of a disturbing investigation for Detective Kim Stone – one which brings her face to face with someone from her own horrific childhood.

As three more sex workers are murdered in quick succession, each death more violent than the last, Kim and her team realise that the initial killing was no one-off frenzied attack, but a twisted serial killer preying on the vulnerable.

At the same time, the search begins for the desperate woman who left her newborn baby at the station – but what looks like a tragic abandonment turns even more sinister when a case of modern slavery is uncovered.

The two investigations bring the team into a terrifying world of human exploitation and cruelty – and a showdown that puts Kim’s life at risk as shocking secrets from her own past come to light.

This is another series that you need to check out if you love mysteries and thrillers! Kim Stone is one of my favourite literary characters!

Broken Bones follows 2 different stories. The first one is about an abandoned baby at the police station. There are many women coming to claim the baby, but none of their stories are aligning. The second story is about prostitutes getting killed. The sad part is that there aren’t too many people that care about these killings and there aren’t many leads that can be followed.

This series has no signs of slowing down, with the 7th novel being just as great as the earlier novels. I love catching up with Kim, Bryant, Stacey and Dawson. I love seeing them work together especially when past events haven’t been too kind to them. The mysteries were excellent and I really enjoyed that things weren’t as they seemed.

4 calculators out of a potential 5. Another great novel to one of my favourite series. Can’t wait for the next novel!
