Cross Her Heart by Sarah Pinborough

Cross Her Heart

Lisa lives for her daughter Ava, her job, and her best friend Marilyn, but when a handsome client shows an interest in her, Lisa starts daydreaming about sharing her life with him too. Maybe she’s ready now. Maybe she can trust again. Maybe it’s time to let her terrifying secret past go.

Then her daughter rescues a boy from drowning and their pictures are all over the news for everyone to see. Lisa’s world explodes, and she finds everything she has built threatened. Not knowing whom she can trust, it’s up to her to face her past to save what she holds dear.

I read Pinborough’s Behind Her Eyes and I would recommend it to everyone just for the WTF ending. It was so crazy and I would of never guessed it in a million years. So when I saw Cross Her Heart, I knew I had to read it.

It was a bit of a disappointment just because I was expecting another crazy ending and sadly lightning doesn’t strike twice here. I really enjoyed the first half of the novel. I was hooked and I had to keep reading to find out what Lisa’s secret was.

Then there was the second half. It got to a point where the plot turned a bit ridiculous and unbelievable. Also I don’t want to spoil anything, but there was some scenes in Lisa’s past that made me uncomfortable. I think the novel should of came with a warning.

3 calculators out of a potential 5. Read Behind Her Eyes, but you can skip Cross Her Heart (unless the plot intrigues you)!
