What are you currently reading?

With its gracious homes and tree-lined streets, Ansley Park is one of Atlanta’s most desirable neighborhoods. But in one gleaming mansion, in a teenager’s lavish bedroom, a girl has been savagely murdered. And in the hallway, her horrified mother stands amid shattered glass, having killed her daughter’s attacker with her bare hands. 

Detective Will Trent of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is here only to do a political favor; the murder site belongs to the Atlanta police. But Trent soon sees something that the cops are missing, something in the trail of blood, in a matrix of forensic evidence, and in the eyes of the shell-shocked mother. Another great Helen Grace novel! I had never read a novel that had fires as the focal point!

Just picked this up from the library. Can’t wait to read more about Strike and Robin!

What did you recently finish reading?

People are disappearing in Christchurch. Cooper Riley, a psychology professor, doesn’t make it to work one day. Emma Green, one of his students, doesn’t make it home. When ex-cop Theodore Tate is released from a four-month prison stint, he’s asked by Green’s father to help find Emma. After all, Tate was in jail for nearly killing her in a DUI accident the year before, so he owes him. Big time. What neither of them knows is that a former mental patient is holding people prisoner as part of his growing collection of serial killer souvenirs. Now he has acquired the ultimate collector’s item—an actual killer.

Meanwhile, clues keep pulling Tate back to Grover Hills, the mental institution that closed down three years ago. Very bad things happened there. Those who managed to survive would prefer keeping their memories buried. Tate has no choice but to unearth Grover Hills’ dark past if there is any chance of finding Emma Green and Cooper Riley alive.

I feel like it took me forever to read Collecting Cooper, which is unusual since I did enjoy it!

What are you currently reading?

Maybe she’s ready now. Maybe she can trust again. Maybe it’s time to let her terrifying secret past go. Then her daughter rescues a boy from drowning and their pictures are all over the news for everyone to see. Lisa’s world explodes, and she finds everything she has built threatened. Not knowing whom she can trust, it’s up to her to face her past to save what she holds dear.

I really loved the crazy ending to Pinborough’s novel Behind Her Eyes. Can’t wait to see what ending she comes up with this time!

What did you recently finish reading?

Poppy and Carise are frustrated. They’re tired of watching the same old cycle: women in their office fall pregnant, leave early and take months off only to eventually return, requesting ‘more flexibility’. All with smug smiles on their faces.

That’s why they create the ‘No Baby Club’ – a Facebook group dedicated to women like themselves who don’t have children, who don’t want children and who simply want to vent about the ‘annoying mummies’ in their lives. They create challenges designed to make sure that childless women reap the benefits, like leaving early for a fake appointment and making one of them pick up the slack for a change. Memberships soar.

But as the group’s tasks get more extreme, Carise starts to worry that they’re taking things too far. On top of that, it seems that not all the new members are being honest and it’s not long before things start to slide disastrously out of control…

I spend my Labour Day reading Those Other Women! So addicting!

What are you currently reading?

Two Truths and a Lie. The girls played it all the time in their tiny cabin at Camp Nightingale. Vivian, Natalie, Allison, and first-time camper Emma Davis, the youngest of the group. The games ended when Emma sleepily watched the others sneak out of the cabin in the dead of night. The last she–or anyone–saw of them was Vivian closing the cabin door behind her, hushing Emma with a finger pressed to her lips.

Now a rising star in the New York art scene, Emma turns her past into paintings–massive canvases filled with dark leaves and gnarled branches that cover ghostly shapes in white dresses. The paintings catch the attention of Francesca Harris-White, the socialite and wealthy owner of Camp Nightingale. When Francesca implores her to return to the newly reopened camp as a painting instructor, Emma sees an opportunity to try to find out what really happened to her friends.

This sounds like it could be a horror movie! Not too far in, but enjoying so far!

What did you recently finish reading?

A young woman wakes up in a cold, dark cellar, with no idea how she got there or who her kidnapper is. So begins her terrible nightmare.

Nearby, the body of another young woman is discovered buried on a remote beach. But the dead girl was never reported missing – her estranged family having received regular texts from her over the years. Someone has been keeping her alive from beyond the grave.

For Detective Inspector Helen Grace it’s chilling evidence that she’s searching for a monster who is not just twisted but also clever and resourceful – a predator who’s killed before.

And as Helen struggles to understand the killer’s motivation, she begins to realize that she’s in a desperate race against time…

I am really enjoying the Helen Grace series. This is the 3rd novel and I enjoyed it as much as the first two novels!

What are you currently reading?

There are no more cheerleaders in the town of Sunnybrook.

First there was the car accident—two girls gone after hitting a tree on a rainy night. Not long after, the murders happened. Those two girls were killed by the man next door. The police shot him, so no one will ever know why he did it. Monica’s sister was the last cheerleader to die. After her suicide, Sunnybrook High disbanded the cheer squad. No one wanted to be reminded of the girls they lost.

That was five years ago. Now the faculty and students at Sunnybrook High want to remember the lost cheerleaders. But for Monica, it’s not that easy. She just wants to forget. Only, Monica’s world is starting to unravel. There are the letters in her stepdad’s desk, an unearthed, years-old cell phone, a strange new friend at school. . . . Whatever happened five years ago isn’t over. Some people in town know more than they’re saying. And somehow Monica is at the center of it all.

There are no more cheerleaders in Sunnybrook, but that doesn’t mean anyone else is safe.

I’m torn on this one. I like it, but there are aspects that I don’t really like. This one will come down to the ending!

Nicola is the sister of best selling author, Liane Moriarty. I enjoyed Nicola’s previous novel, The Fifth Letter, and her newest novel sounds super interesting!
