Top Ten Tuesday – Books I Disliked/Hated but Am Really Glad I Read

Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, featuring a different top 10 theme each week. This week’s topic is Books I Disliked/Hated but Am Really Glad I Read.

This is a tricky topic! There aren’t too many books that I disliked, but glad I read. I’m posting my top ten somewhat “popular” books that I’m glad I read, not because I enjoyed them, but because I can contribute to the conversation when people talk about them!

What are some books that you disliked, but are glad that you read them?

  1. Oh man, I love some of these books! haha ACOTAR being one (although the second and third were way better), and Then She Was Gone is another. I still have A Darker Shade of Magic on my TBR and have heard very mixed reviews about it so I’m curious about which way I’ll lean on that one.

  2. How interesting! I hated the 50 Shades series, and Sophie Kinsella’s work is pretty bad too; but i’m interested to know why you dislike Game of Thrones? I haven’t read the series but have always wanted to!

    1. The biggest problem for me was that there was way too many characters to keep track of. It was hard to understand what was happening when I forgot the character’s past. I say go for it (there is a character page at the back of the novel, which of course I stumbled upon after I finished!).

  3. Wow! I’ve seen a few people with ACOTAR on their list! I’m so shocked because it seems that everyone loves that book so much. Don’t get me wrong, I liked that book but love Mass’s other series much more. I have some of these books on my TBR. Haha.. I read Fifty Shades and also disliked it.

  4. I agree on 50 Shades and Shopaholic. My friend read The Nanny and hated it. Everytime I see someone post they are about to read it I cringe about and wish them luck (on the inside, I would never ruin a book for someone!)

  5. Interesting list. I really like 50 Shades but know that a lot of people didn’t. I enjoyed a few others on your list too. It’s not bad thing that different books suit different people. It would be a boring predictable world if we all liked the same.

  6. Great list I loved some of these books as well and I totally understand why you couldn’t get into some of them. I know some of these books are not for every reader and that is totally ok. Thank you so much for sharing your awesome post.

  7. I’m with you on A Game of Thrones! I’m glad I read it, but… definitely wasn’t a favorite. And I agree that some books are nice to have read just so that it’s possible to participate in related discussions,

  8. I absolutely loved the Fifty Shades trilogy – not for the sex but for the backwards Beauty & the Beast theme I saw. It was nice to see the woman saving the man, for once. I have a thing against damsels in distress but this series really seemed to show the woman helping to save the man instead 🙂 Just my opinion. I haven’t read ACOTAR yet but it’s still on my TBR.
